O'Curry describes a workman having found a 'rough roundish lump of granite with a hole through the middle' and weighing about five hundred weight while working at the site of Archbishop Fowler's bathhouse. The hole was 'screwlike', and he states that 'it looks like the pedastal of a cross, which it would seem was screwed into it' (O'Curry 1837, 32). The stone lay for some time at the end of Friar's Walk (Handcock 1899, 35).The precise location of this monument is unknown.
