According to Went (1954, 51-52) there was a salmon weir granted to Sir William Wyse of Waterfordin Chapelizod in 1524. The Civil survey (1654-6) describes a salmon weir on the river Liffey at Chapelizod (Simington 1945, 223). This was probably associated with the dam formerly used for supplying water to the mills in the area on or close to the present mill dam. No longer used as a fishery except for angling.
