The medieval town of Chapelizod was surrounded by a wall. It was still standing at the beginning of the 17th century as the E gate of the town is mentioned (Ball 1906, 165).
The only possible building associated with the defences may be a two-storey, square house at the corner of St Martins Row. This has a chamfered corner to first floor level with traces of moulding painted over. On the N face is a tablet with a lion rampant and a moulding, which formerly contained a motto above it. The windows in the building are peculiarly arranged as if later inserted. This may be a medieval building.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
