Excavations at26-29 Castle Street and 20 Lord Edward Street in 1992 uncoveredevidence for domestic habitation in the form of post and wattle structures with associated floors. Finds included stick pins, arrowheads, knives, needles and combs (Byrne 1992, 18-19). Excavations on the same site in 1993, earlier structures ranging from the 10th -13th century. They were rectangular in plan (L 18.2m, Wth 5.5m on average). A large number of cess pits were uncovered, unlined and produced a large quantity of faunal and botancial remains (Byrne, 1994, 15-16).
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
