The precise location of a prison associated with St Mary's Cistercian Abbey (DU018-020048-) has not been identified (Clarke 2002, 23). In 1282-3 the Dublin White book recorded proceedings before Stephen, Bishop of Meath, Justiciary of Ireland, in relation to a felon, who by authority of the Abbot of St. Mary's Abbey, had been arrested and incarcerated in the prison of that house for upwards of eight days previous to his transfer to the King's prison' (CARD Vol. 1, 164).
