The precise location of the bridge on Thomas Street to the SW of St. John's House (DU018-020062-) that is depicted on Speed's 1610 Map of Dublin City has not been identified. The bridge crosses the watercourse (DU018-020374-/0739-) which powered the medieval watermills (DU018-020226-/0096-/0230-) belonging to St. John's Priory and Hospital. The bridge was located on the N side of the present Thomas Street in the vicinity of the National College of Art and Design and the present St. John's Church. See attached section of Speed's 1610 Map of Dublin City showing the bridge and the watercourse running along St. Thomas Street between St. Catherine's Church and John's Lane West Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 28 June 2023
