Granted by John, Lord of Ireland to Willliam Doubleday in the late 12th century with a half share held by St Mary's Abbey (Clarke 2002, 26, G3). The site of the medieval double day mills were located on the River Poddle, just outside the town wall at the present junction of Exchange Court and Cork Hill (Bradley & King 1987, 1, 39; FMD map 1978, N3).
