What is recorded here

The medieval parish church of St. George stood in Georges Lane near the junction of Exchequer Street and South Great George's Street (Wheeler and Craig 1948, 17). It was assigned to the Priory of All Hallows prior to 1233. In 1457 parliament levied a tax for its repair (Gilbert 1854-9, 181-2). The church was taken down by 1586 (Bradley & King 1987, 113). FMD map (1978) F5, Clarke 2002, 18). There are no visible remains above ground. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 28 August 2012

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
