The precise location of the 'Well of St. Francis' in The Coombe has not been identified (Clarke 2002, 28). The well was mentioned c. 1530 (McNeill 1950, 302). An entry in Archbishop Allen's Register mentions the Liberty of St. Thomas saying that "it begins beyond the island of the Coombe behind the former gallows [DU018-020122-] of the Archbishop, and on this side of the well of St. Francis'.
