The Augustinian Friary of the Holy Trinity was created about the year 1259 by one of the family of Talbot (Gilbert 1861, 1, 170). In 1282 William de Stafford left legacies to various churches including the Augustinian Friars before leaving on pilgrimage to the Holy Land (Gwynn and Hadcock 1970, 298). At the dissolution of the monastery in 1540 it was described as a 'church with belfry, a hall and dormitory' (Gilbert 1854-9, 2, Appendix 1-11; Gwynn and Hadcock 1970, 299).
A total of c. 70 burials of late 12th -14th century were revealed in excavations in 1993 (Reid 1994, 29). Test excavations in 1995 indicated that remains of the friary survived on the E side of Cecilia House (Gowen 1996, 17-18) and further excavations in 1996 exposed a section of wall with a relieving arch and a corner tower (Simpson 1997, 20-21; FMD map (1978) H3, Clarke 2002, 19-20, B3)
