Danes Well or Tobar na Lochlannach now covered is located to the rear of housing off Fairfield Road, in the parish of St. George, barony of Coolock. Formerly known as 'Dane's Well' this gave its name to the townland of Daneswell. Acccording to Daly (1957, 21; Anon. 1928, 161) 'fallen statues were found lying in a ditch near to the well, which were supposed to be part of the well's adornment thus indicating that it had the reputation of being a holy well and in all probability a curative one. Its site was given as being in a field known as the Bull Field, near Fairfield and Cliftonville roads'. Annotated 'Deane's Well (Covered)' on the 1863 ed. OSi 25-inch map.
