In 1275 the Crede Mihi noted that the chapel (DU014-073001-) at Artaine was one of three attached to the Church of Finglas (Walsh 1888, 195). Archbishop Alen's Reportorium viride of 1532 also refers to a chapel dedicated to St Nicholas (ibid. , 201). The Civil survey (1654-6) mentions the chapel of Artaine (Simington 1945, 177). Today the remains comprise a rectangular church on a raised site in a small public park. Fragments of 16th century floor tiles were found in the interior (McMahon 1998, 157, 155-162). Memorials which, date from 1711-1827, have been attached to the exterior of the church. Church depicted standing in centre of square-shaped graveyard (dims. 38m NE-SW x 34m E-W) on 1837 ed.
