A substantial ditch enclosure was initially identified in the course of geophysical survey and confirmed as archaeological in origin by test trenching (McLoughlin 2007), the site occupies an area of roughly 65m x 25m in extent. Further test-excavation revealed the ditch to be 1.95m wide and 1.25m deep. Bone, charcoal and a copper object were recovered. A preliminary interpretation of enclosed settlement of the early medieval period has been made (O’Connell 2017) Compiled by: Christine Baker Date of upload: 8 November 2021
