Excavations between 1997 and 2001 on a site termed the Eagle's Nest in the eastern valley on Lambay Island revealed a deliberately created low mound. This monument comprises a series of pits which were covered by stones and layers of sediment incorporating stone settings. A hoard with an Orcadian type macehead was found in the make-up (Cooney 2003, 126-128).
