What is recorded here

Excavations (Licence no. 99E0548) in 2001 on the Airport-Balbriggan Northern Route revealed substantial remains of a large circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m) which was defined by a ditch (Wth 2.45m, d 1-1.5m). It contained animal bones, flint and iron slag. It enclosed three smaller ditches within which were six human burials. All were aligned E-W with their heads to the W. All were extended, inhumations with no grave goods. A sub-rectangular ditch running from the edge of the large enclosing ditch contained a single human burial within a slab-lined grave. Date uncertain (Opie 2003, 89). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Updated by: Christine Baker Date of upload: 07 January 2015
