The precise location of a castle in the townland of Castleland, in the parish of Balrothery, barony of Balrothery East, Fingal, has not been identified. The 1654-6 Civil Survey of County Dublin recorded that in the year 1641 on the lands of Nicholas Eustace of Corfy, an Irish papist, there was ‘a farme in Balrothery called Castele Land’ measuring 38 acres in size on which there stood a ‘Burnt Castle & three small tenem[en]ts Valued by ye Jury twenty poundes’ (Simington 1945, 12)
