The precise location of a Chaff House in townland of Garristown has not been identified. A chaff house is a building used for storing husks from the grain crop (chaff) for animal feed after it has been threshed and winnowed in the barn. The 1654-56 Civil Survey of Dublin recorded stated that in Garristown on the lands of Mr Laurence Bealing of Bealingstowne, an Irish Papist, there stood; 'one Chaffe house with a barne [DU003-011016-] & Kill house [DU003-011017-] valued by ye Jury at ten pounds' (Simington 1945, 18).
