Mudge (1836, 361-7) records the finding of a 'wooden house' buried in the bog here. The 'house' was 12ft square by 9ft in height, and divided about halfway by a second floor making two separate rooms, each room being 'four feet high in the clear'. It was not clear from the report what the date of the structure might be. It was located on rising ground covered with deep deposits of peat.
