Church (in Ruins) — Glebe (cloghan Ed)

Kilteevoge Old Church: The inscription on the silver communion plate donated by the widow of Thomas Davies to the parish church of Kilteevoge in 1691 records that she rebuilt the church (Maguire II, 1920, 61). It was restored in 1733 and continued in use until St. John's Church was built at Glenmore in 1877-9 (Rowan 1979, 307-8). The surviving church ruins, 15.7m by 7.3m internally, are built of rubble with ashlar quoins composed of vertically set, narrow blocks. The remains of the E gable 1.5m high are set into the W end of the graveyard (DG068-023001-) mound; there is a rock-basin (DG068-023002-) set in concrete on top of the wall beside a modern central gap. Only the W 9.5m of the featureless N wall remains, 2.4m high. Its E end has been rebuilt and squared off and a chamfered fragment, possibly from a door, incorporated in the fabric. The W gable survives to a central door height of c. 2m; the doorway is blocked has no head or rear-arch and a modern altar has been built against the interior face. There are three splayed windows in the S wall. Only the lower courses of the two easternmost remain; that on the W is exceptionally large c. 3m high and preserves its round head and rear-arch.
