Kinahan (1889, 278) recorded the 'ruin of a cashel' having a small diameter with a lofty wall at a place called 'Doongonmoyle'. Neither the place nor the cashel could be traced. Nearby, however, at a place called Doongonigle, the narrowest portion of a promontory is cut by an apparently natural arrangement which suggests a bank and fosse. This is a heavily wooded area on the shore of Mulroy Bay.
