What is recorded here

Several hut sites were noted, in the late 19th- and early 20th-centuries, in the sand dunes of Horn head, close to a stream and extending up the slope of an adjacent hill. They were roughly circular, defined on the perimeter by stones. Their size in diameter was described as being between ‘five and eight paces’ (PRIA 1912, vol. 6, series 3, 349). Their exact location is unknown but it is possible that a hut site (DG015-010----) found in 1980 close to a stream in Pollaguill Td. is one of them. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
