According to local tradition this is the site of an early Christian church founded by St. Buadan which fell into disuse when taken over by Protestants in the 17th century. A new church was built in 1739 with a tower added in 1828, presumably this church was built on or near to the site of the medieval church(Bonner 1972, 72). The original graveyard around the current church may have extended from Ardmore (DG005-012-) where there are the remains of the old burial gd.(DG005-012002-). Across the road running through the village to where the church now stands, road workers found human bones in the soil while road widening. St. Buadan's Bell a 9th century bell is kept in the village of Culdaff. The oldest part of the graveyard is to the south and east of the C of I church with a later extension to the graveyard on the northern side. Some of the earliest headstones date from the early 1700's.
