The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of revision: 16 December 2009 Revised by: J. Farrelly D-shaped enclosure defined by bank from SE-W-N and Derreen River (dims. c. 60m x c. 40m). Lower courses of simple rectangular structure (L c. 15m x Wth c. 6m). According to O'Toole (JKAS 1932, 71-4) nave and chancel church (nave L 8.9m x Wth 6.2m; chancel L 7.6m x Wth 6.2m). Second structure (L 6.4m x 3.1m) with door on either side, attached to SW angle. Within graveyard (CW009-006002-), head of free-standing Latin cross and arch of doorway (OSL 1839, 144). Comerford (1886, Vol. II, 352-3) also mentions 'a rude' stone vessel, probably a baptismal font. Available evidence suggests medieval or late medieval foundation. (Gwynn and Hadcock 1988, 368).
