What is recorded here

Orpen (1906, 376) suggests that there was a castle near the present Castlemore House which belonged to the Eustaces in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. He also adds (ibid., 379) following O'Donovan that "about five chains north of Castlemore moat is the site of an old castle which belonged to the Eustace family. None of it remains". The precise location of this castle is unknown. Reference: Orpen, G. H. 1906 The Castle of Raymond le Gros at Fodredunolan' in JRSAI (XXXVI) 368-82. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
