Marked 'Holy Well' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated at the foot of a hillock, c. 80m SSW of another holy well which survives intact (CV039-051----). Davies (1948, 113) noted that the site was known as the 'Friars's Well' and adjoining it the 'Friar's Orchard'.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
