What is recorded here

The truncated and ploughed-out remains of the small burnt spread were exposed on removal of the topsoil. It is described as follows in the report on the excavation (licence no. 03E0725; Clarke 2003, 3): ‘This spread covered an area which measured 3.80m by 2.50m and had an average thickness of 0.30m. This spread consisted of fire-cracked sandstone, charcoal-stained clay and the very occasional tiny flecks of charcoal (insufficient amount for a charcoal sample). This spread was removed onto the natural stony boulder clay.’ Compiled by: Paul Walsh Date of upload: 28 November 2016
