What is recorded here

Raised roughly circular area (int. dims. c. 43m NW-SE; c. 40m NE-SW) enclosed by a very substantial earthen bank and a wide, deep, partly waterlogged fosse. Traces of a low counterscarp bank at the outer lip of the fosse from E-S-SW and from WNW-NNE are almost certainly relatively modern in date. Break in bank with accompanying causeway at SSE represents original entrance. Internal area very overgrown with vegetation. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
