What is recorded here

Marked on the OS 1836 and 1876 eds. as a small circular island in Ardra Lough, c. 20m from the shoreline. The water-levels in the lake have been significantly lowered and today the site adjoins the shoreline. It comprises a low irregularly shaped mound of earth and stone (H 0.4m; dims. 6.4mNE-W; 5.6m NW-SE). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
