What is recorded here

After 1616 Sir Oliver Lambert was granted lands at Cavan town on condition that he built a citadel and town wall (Davies 1948, 98), but he seems to have built neither and the town remained undefended by stone walls throughout its history. However, references to a town ditch in 1634 (Hunter 1971, 13) suggest that there may have been some earthwork defences, although their line is not known.
