A bawn of clay and stones was apparently erected here during the Plantation period. The hill upon which it was situated is called 'Castle Hill', and a nearby field 'Piers Field' reputedly derives its name from massive walls with stone gateposts which formerly surrounded it. No visible remains at ground level, but it remains unplanted in a forest. (Davies 1948a, 116-7)
