Depicted on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. as a large oval-shaped enclosure (int. dims. c. 65m NE-SW; c. 45m NW-SE), with the designation 'Fort', situated within a tree plantation. The enclosing elements comprising a substantial earthen bank and a fosse survive only from N-E. Elsewhere both features have been much modified and incorporated into the boundary of the tree plantation. Original entrance not recognisable. The internal area has been planted with trees and is heavily overgrown with vegetation.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
