Between 1611 and 1613, John Fishe apparently built a castle of brick and lime in a rath (CV014-049001-) in this townland. A subrectangular hollow (dims 18.4m NE-SW; 1.4m NW-SE) containing some loose masonry is visible in the interior of the rath and an earlier account (Davies 1948a, 113) suggested that this may mark the cellars of a house. The structure was abandoned in 1719. (O'Reilly 1985, 263-6, 275; Wilsdon 2010, 179-82) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
