What is recorded here

Overlooking Rosscarbery estuary to S and E. The site of a monastery which was founded by St Fachtna, who died c. 600 (Gwynn and Hadcock 1988, 96). A 19th-century C of I cathedral, incorporating some remains of a 17th-century cathedral (CO143-023008-), and a graveyard (CO143-023002-) now occupy the site. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992).
