Located c. 2m above mine (CO139-026015-) entrance, S end of Barnacleeve Gap. Inclined working driven 250° into N-facing rock scarp. Partial excavation removed 0.3m of stony sediment and vegetation from entrance, revealing carbonaceous primary sediment; one stone maul found. Accessible length c. 5m; entrance (Wth 2.6m; H 1m); interior (Wth 1.5m; H 0.8m). No extant spoil sediments on floor of gorge 3-4m below mine. (O'Brien 1987: mine 16) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
