In tillage, on brow of low hill facing ESE. Circular enclosure (37m N-S; 36m E-W) excavated 1987-8 by J. O'Sullivan in project organised by Clonakilty Macra na Feirme, utilizing a FAS scheme. Interior enclosed by dump-construction earthen bank (H 1.5m); external fosse (D 2m) with low counterscarp bank. Entrance to SE with causeway; second later entrance to W, with causeway. Excavation in interior revealed evidence for central round house (diam. c. 6m); range of small outhouses; and three souterrains (CO135-031002; CO135-031003-; CO135-124---). Finds include iron slag; iron objects, e.g. knife, nails etc.; quernstone; single blue glass bead. Project currently engaged in reconstruction of fort. (O'Sullivan 1989, 11-12).
