What is recorded here

In rough hill grazing, in a hollow on a NE-facing slope, on Bear Island. A linear arrangement (L c. 7m) of stones beside a rocky ridge on the NW side of the hollow is, according to local tradition, the remains of a church and is also believed to have been used as a mass-rock. The site is known locally as 'Láthair Séipéil' [the place of the church]. (O'Sullivan 1992, 55) The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
