What is recorded here

In rough pasture, on the NW side of a road with rising rocky slopes to the N. A raised D-shaped area with the straight side at SE (L 25m) is enclosed by a low intermittent bank (Wth 4-4.5m; int. H 0.05-0.2m; ext. H 0.7m to the base of the fosse) and an external fosse (Wth 2.2m; D 0.2m below outer ground level) WSW-ENE. The straight side is formed by an overgrown WSW-ENE roadside field boundary. The interior, in pasture, is level. The area outside the fosse is wet and covered with irises and rushes. An ESB pole was recently erected on the bank at W. The remains are probably that of a rath that was truncated by the road. No enclosing element is visible on the SE side of the road. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
