What is recorded here

In pasture, with good views over the surrounding countryside. According to local information, this was the location of the stone fort that gave its name to this townland: Cathair Garbh. The possible cashel is not visible at ground level. It may have been associated with a souterrain (CO127-030001-), which is also at this location. A hut site (CO127-030002-) lies c. 70m to the NE. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
