What is recorded here

A group of possibly four holy wells, located c.8m east of the graveyard (CO115-045001-) surrounding the ruins of Kilaconenagh church (CO115-045002-) to the west of Castletownbere. Situated on the southern edge of a ridge of exposed bedrock, now heavily overgrown, in an area known as Glebe. They consist of three large, circular hollows, probably natural in origin with a possible fourth c. 1m higher up the bedrock. There is no evidence that they are still visited regularly but they are known locally as the Holy Wells. The western well has a diameter of 0.5m and depth of 0.3m. 0.6m to the east is the second which is 0.8 x 1.1m in diameter and depth of 0.4m. 0.9m to the east is the third with a diameter of 0.9x1.2m and a depth of 0.2m.
