What is recorded here

In pasture, on an E-W ridge in Berehaven Golf Course. A roughly rectangular area (10m N-S; c. 8m E-W), known locally as a 'cillíneach' or children's burial ground. It contains uninscribed grave-markers (max. H 0.4m) generally orientated N-S. Quartz stones occur intermittently throughout the burial ground, which is maintained clear of overgrowth by Golf Club personnel, and a holly tree stands in the centre. Tall recently erected slabs, standing at intervals, mark the perimeter of the burial ground and there is also a modern cross-inscribed plaque inscribed 'An Cillineach RIP'. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
