What is recorded here

In rough pasture covered with rushes, on a SW-facing slope. A large, gorse-covered, horseshoe-shaped mound (15.5m N-S; 10m E-W; H 1.1m) of heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil. The opening (Wth 4m) faces W towards a waterlogged area. A series of upright stones appear to form a revetment between the curving sides of the opening and the mound. Heat-shattered stones and charcoal-enriched soil are exposed at the tip of the S arm of the mound. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
