What is recorded here

In the 1940s a big stone with water-filled cup-shaped holes was recorded at Rockhouse Cross; the water in the hollows was said locally to cure warts (ITA). However, it was also recorded that the stone had been blasted some years previously and only part of it then remained (ITA). This stone could not be found in 2005 and its precise location is not known. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
