This structure, No. 83 North Main Street, Bandon, comprises a four-bay three-storey mid-terrace building. It incorporates a structural oak frame and its construction is consistent with an early-17th century date. The frame is clearly visible in a number of locations on each of the three floors, most particularly on the internal spine wall between the large rooms to the front (N), the smaller rooms and staircase to the rear (S) and in the support structure of the sprocketed roof to the rear. There is a substantial masonry stack (c. 1m square) built into this spine wall at ground and first-floor level: it does not continue up to second-floor level. The stack appears to be a chimney that formed part of the 17th-century structure. Other early features include a basement undercroft in the eastern front ground-floor room, wide butt-jointed oak floor boards on the second floor, an iron hinge bracket set into the oak structural post at the door opening into the first-floor room, and brick infilled panels visible between the structural timbers in a number of locations in the building. There is a surviving (detached) six-panel raised and fielded door, which appears to be of late-17th century date. This door is currently stored at second-floor level and its original location is unclear. The structure includes a number of later alterations including a replacement double-pitch roof, sheeted timber partitions, and later ceilings of plaster and lath and sheeted timber construction. (Boyle 2013) The dog-leg stair with half landing to the rear appears to be a late 18th-century addition.
