Grave Yard — Tubbrid

Approached by laneway from N; rectangular graveyard (c. 60m E-W; c. 40m N-S) on part of site formerly occupied by Cistercian abbey (CO099-043003-) and later by parish church of Tracton which may have been the former abbey church (Gwynn and Hadcock 1988, 143). The latter was 'in good repair' in 1699 and 'the church-yard partly fenced with a wall, partly with a ditch' (Brady 1863, vol. 1, 356). In 1817 new C of I church built on site; extensively repaired about 1860 (Brady ibid, 358). This is small plain rectangular building with three pointed windows in both N and S wall; gabled porch at W end with plaque over door, inscription reads "T. Barry Builder A.D. 1817"; vestry added to NE corner. Graveyard in occasional use; earliest inscribed headstones noted date from mid-18th century.
