Built into NE-facing slope overlooking Bandon river. Early 19th-century Gothic revival castle; now in ruins. Essentially two-storey over basement. Irregular ground plan (long axis NW-SE), circular tower on S corner and polygonal tower on N corner. Embattled parapet with false machicolations and corner turrets. Burnt in 1920. Ornamental tower (CO097-031----) on estate to W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992).
