What is recorded here

According to Healy (1988, 99), the 'strong building' in Ballykendrick referred to by Charles Smith in 1750 may have been located in the 'castle field' in this townland where 'there is no trace of the castle now'. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
