What is recorded here

According to Fleming (1903, 210), a 'castle' in Cloyne, on the north side of Rock Street, was destroyed in 1798 and a plaque (CO088-019013----) from it which bore the Fitzgerald arms, the letters IEG (John fitzEdmund fitzGerald) and the date 1606, was removed. There is now no evident trace of this building, the site is occupied by 18th/19th-century town houses. (Zajac et al. 1995, 29) The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
