Archaeological testing was carried out in advance of a large multi-phase housing development at Carrigaline Middle in 2001. A feature, uncovered in trench I, was situated c. 5.5m to the NNW of a rath (CO087-030----). The feature was initially identified in a geophysical survey as a large subcircular anomaly, measuring c. 10m in diameter. The feature and its fill, recorded as a compact, silty, stony material, was excavated to a depth of 1.7m below surface level before safety issues precluded any further excavation. (Sherlock 2002)
