What is recorded here

According to Healy (1904, 113) there were three ringforts in the Newtown area. One ('a small lis, nearly obliterated, immediately above the Norwood convent') of which he could locate. The other two (on the property of Lord Barrymore) had 'disappeared completely' in his time. Exact location of all three not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
