What is recorded here

In pasture. Circular area (diam. 32.5m) defined by earthen bank (int. H 1.55m) with external fosse (D 0.55m). Entrance to SW. According to Hartnett (1939, 260) 'there were originally two ramparts enclosing the fort, but the outer one was levelled about 30 years ago. A section of it still remains to the west'. No visible surface trace of outer rampart. Possible souterrain (9123) in interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
